Film Analysis:

Brandon Coleman is a versatile offensive line prospect who primarily lines up at OT. He also played guard during the 2023 season, showing that he has positional versatility and the ideal physical tools for both positions which he utilizes to be an effective blocker in both pass protection and as a run blocker.

In pass protection, Coleman shows to be a good athlete in how he can get depth in his pass set, showcasing a smooth, balanced kick-slide that keeps him in good position to execute blocks. Coleman can consistently beat defenders to the top of the rush and with his size alone be an effective blocker, forcing defenders around him to get to the quarterback. Coleman also shows the ability to shoot his hands and be effective with his hand usage to make initial contact and slow the defender’s pass rush.

As a run blocker, Coleman’s athleticism shows in his quick first step on zone-blocking schemes. When he is on the backside of run plays, Coleman can cut off the backside of a run and create a cut-back opportunity for the running back. He also showed the ability to reach-block defenders—he’s able to quickly cross face, placing an effective block. Coleman also does a good job of climbing to second-level defenders to make contact and using his frame to get in the way of defenders to force them around him to get to the ball-carrier.

Coleman’s improvements as a player are centered around his ability to maintain his balance and maintain a good base. In pass protection, Coleman will at times lean and lunge at defenders to make first contact, which results in his lack of balance and defenders being able to beat him using a push-pull technique. In the run game, Coleman does the same, trying to make initial contact by simply leaning on defenders but defenders can slip the block.

Overall, Coleman has a good combination of lower-body athleticism with the arm length/wingspan to be an effective offensive tackle or guard on the next level. He just needs to clean up detailed technical issues to help him become a more consistent player.
