Film Analysis:
Grayson McCall was a multi-year starter for Coastal Carolina and earned his accolades. He boasts a dual-threat athletic profile. McCall is more than capable of creating for himself with his legs if plays break down. His mobility allows the offensive play-caller to work this aspect into their game plan. He can operate the quick passing game with good efficiency and effectiveness. His accuracy and ball placement are adequate. He can effectively work the short portions of the field without restrictions.
McCall struggles with arm talent and strength. He does not have enough power to drive throws consistently into tight windows or into the intermediate and deep areas of the field. The lack of arm talent limits how the offense can attack defenses. With his poor arm strength, he cannot be late on reads or targets without the fear of putting the ball in harm's way. McCall was accustomed to operating a non-traditional and near-gimmicky offense at Coastal Carolina. This offense raises concerns about McCall’s ability to read NFL defenses after easy predetermined reads in his college offense. We’ll see how he performs at NC State.
McCall projects best as the third quarterback or practice squad body. His lack of arm strength will be a huge hurdle to clear for McCall to find himself as an adequate starting NFL quarterback.
