The New York Giants were disappointingly defeated by the Carolina Panthers in overtime in Munich, Germany on Sunday. The loss dropped the Giants to 2-8 and moved them up to No. 2 overall in the current 2025 NFL Draft order. General manager Joe Schoen will almost certainly be drafting a quarterback to replace Daniel Jones.
Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders have been considered the top two draft-eligible quarterbacks throughout the college football season. Both Ward and Sanders played well on the weekend, but it's a different quarterback prospect that could capture the Giants' attention during the pre-draft process.
Alabama's Jalen Milroe would be an excellent fit in Brian Daboll's offense.
Milroe enjoyed a bit of a resume game in Saturday's victory over LSU. The Katy, Texas native completed 12-of-18 passing attempts for 109 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Milroe's game on the ground was significantly more notable. The dual-threat scrambler rushed for 185 yards and four touchdowns via just 12 rushing attempts.
Not stoppin' @jalenmilroe 👀

This season has been a rollercoaster for Milroe. He initially catapulted himself into the QB1 conversation in a late September victory over Georgia. Milroe unfortunately followed that performance up with stinkers against Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
The dominant win over LSU proved that Milroe remains a highly intriguing quarterback prospect. There's no denying his raw mechanics as a passer, but there's also no denying his playmaking ability. Milroe possesses as high of a ceiling as Sanders and Ward do.
NOT ONE, NOT TWO, NOT THREE BUT FOUR RUSHING TDS FOR JALEN MILROE 😱

Daboll would be the ideal head coach to maximize Milroe's skill set. Giants owner John Mara recently claimed that Schoen and Daboll are safe despite the lackluster 2024 season. If so, they should receive an opportunity to hand-select Jones' successor in April.
Daboll is an offensive-minded leader who can successfully build his offense around a quarterback. He achieved that in Buffalo with a young, raw Josh Allen, and is capable of doing something similar for Milroe, helping him acclimate to professional football. The landing spot is critical to Milroe's next-level success, and Daboll will receive just one opportunity to get his post-Jones plan right.
We've seen NFL offenses successfully built around quarterbacks with Milroe's skill set. Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts faced similar questions as passers coming out of college. Both players landed in ideal situations that believed in building a system around their elite traits. If the same thing happens for Milroe, similar results could be achieved.
The Giants are entering a Week 11 bye following the overseas loss to Carolina. There's an excellent chance that Daboll will consider benching Jones in favor of backup quarterback Drew Lock down the stretch. Jones possesses a $23 million injury guarantee clause in his contract for the 2025 campaign. Benching Jones would avoid that from triggering, allowing Schoen to release his struggling quarterback from his contract in the offseason.
The Giants will enter the 2025 campaign with a new starting quarterback. They may receive an opportunity to draft their top-ranked quarterback prospect. Milroe should receive strong consideration from Daboll and Schoen.
