3 WRs Packers Should Try To Add This Offseason

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs made some interesting comments while speaking with the media during Super Bowl week. Jacobs believes the Packers must acquire a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver this offseason. His comments created quite a stir.

“We need a wide receiver,” Jacobs said. “A real WR. Love the guys we have but we need a proven No. 1.”

Jacobs is correct. Jayden Reed led the Packers in receiving yards with 857 yards in 2024. Tucker Kraft was their second-leading receiver. Matt LaFleur could use a truly dynamic weapon to elevate this core to new heights.

We've identified three receivers the Packers should attempt to acquire this offseason, whether via trade or free agency.

Tee Higgins

Tee Higgins is easily the best receiver set to reach free agency this offseason. The Cincinnati Bengals played hardball with him last summer. Higgins eventually signed his franchise tag despite requesting a trade, but he'll aim to sign a long-term lucrative contract this time around. The Bengals may not manage to afford his asking price.

If Higgins hits the open market, the Packers should possess major interest. He’d immediately become a go-to pass catcher for quarterback Jordan Love on the boundary as LaFleur’s “X” receiver. Christian Watson is supposed to play that role, but recurring injuries have prevented him from reaching his full potential. Higgins would satisfy Green Bay’s need for a true difference-maker.

Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill requested a trade away from the Miami Dolphins as soon as their disappointing 2024 campaign reached its conclusion. Hill's contract with the Dolphins is through 2026, but a trade becomes financially fruitful for the organization in June, when nearly $15 million would be available via savings, according to OverTheCap. Hill won’t be on the Dolphins in 2026 with his contract scheduled to carry an unreasonable $51.8 million cap number in its final year.

The speedy wideout prefers to play for an annual Super Bowl contender. The Packers have qualified for the postseason in consecutive seasons. Hill would serve as a deep threat for Love, freeing Reed and Kraft to continue doing damage underneath the coverage and after the catch.z

Courtland Sutton

Would the Denver Broncos consider trading Courtland Sutton this offseason? Sutton is entering a contract year because his deal is structured to void in March 2026. His cap number is a bloated $20.2 million. A post-Jun-1  trade would create nearly $14 million in cap savings for the Broncos. The eight-year pro will expect an amendment to his contract this offseason, whether via trade or extension.

Sutton recorded 1,081 receiving yards in 2024, the second-highest total of his career, his best output since 2019. Sutton was completely healthy and showcased terrific chemistry with rookie quarterback Bo Nix. The Broncos made the playoffs, so there may be hesitancy to trade Nix's go-to receiver. They are still building their roster, however, and if there's any hesitancy whatsoever to extend the aging wideout, they could trade him for a draft pick and begin adding younger players as potential replacements.
