Film Analysis:

Alabama’s Jermaine Burton is a well-traveled wide receiver who enjoyed career highs as a senior in 2023. Burton originally entered college as a high 4-star recruit out of California and enrolled with the Georgia Bulldogs. He played two full seasons with the Bulldogs and was their leading receiver as a sophomore. He eventually transferred to Alabama to play with Bryce Young in 2022. He had a down year in his first year in Tuscaloosa but broke out as a senior where he became the team’s leading receiver.

Burton has average size for the position and has a lean build with little muscle mass. He is an outstanding athlete who flashes excellent speed, short-area quickness, and body control. Burton is a versatile weapon in the passing game who aligns primarily on the outside but has also played a fair amount from the slot. He has easy speed off the line of scrimmage and can threaten defenders deep in an instant. He is an excellent deep threat who can get behind the defense and track the football.

Burton is an above-average route-runner who can accelerate and decelerate in an instant, leaving defenders in their tracks. He is excellent on in-breaking routes and comebacks where he can threaten defenders with his speed and then snap them off in an instant, creating plenty of space for him to get the football.

He is a slenderly built receiver who struggles when he faces press coverage. He can get pushed off his stem when defenders get their hands on him early. Burton flashes very good hands overall and is above average in contested-catch situations—especially for a receiver who isn't overly physical. He is just average after the catch and lacks the creativity to make plays when they aren’t there.

While Burton has a lot to like as a potential NFL receiver, there are questions about his immaturity as he was prone to penalties and taunting while in college. He projects as a mid-to-low-level No. 2 option in the NFL.
