“Bralen Trice is a relentless, versatile, and impactful edge rusher with the required functional strength to be a consistent three-down defender.”

Strengths:

  • Active-handed puncher

  • Variety of pass-rush moves

  • High-effort motor

  • Dip and bend at top of rush

Concerns:

  • Inconsistent punch timing/landing

  • Missed tackles

  • Block shedding vs. the run

Film Analysis:

Bralen Trice plays with a high motor and uncoachable effort. Rushing the passer, Trice throws multiple moves at the offensive lineman. When he’s dialed in, you will see a second and even third move thrown to get in the backfield to disrupt the quarterback. He has very active hands with counterpunches.

He has quick and sudden moves to sell a direction before planting the outside foot in the dirt and crossing the blocker’s face. Trice has good hips. He comfortably sinks his hips to dip, rip, and corner the quarterback.

His pass-rush repertoire is strong. He flashes clubs, double-hand swipes, and quick swim moves. Trice is an effective looper on twists/stunts. He is capable of impacting passing plays from tight and wide-9 pre-snap alignments. He’s experienced and effective at knocking down and clearing the blocker’s hands.

As a run defender, Trice boasts functional arm length and strength at the point of attack. He does a nice job anchoring to hold his ground versus solo blocks. Trice sets hard edges and flashes his colors to deter ball carriers from bouncing runs. He has a planned attack with his hand placement to properly squeeze gaps and maintain outside leverage.

Trice has inconsistent punch timing and it can ultimately throw off or ruin the effectiveness of his rush. His punches can be early and it is difficult to recover. Against the run, Trice can be moved off the ball. At times, he plays with a high pad level from his 2-point stance. Creating issues with leveraging at the point of attack if he is not the aggressor. Trice does not shed blocks routinely after the initial battle in the run game. He will lock out his arms and fight to a stalemate but he would be more impactful if he shed blocks consistently. He must improve on finishing plays with his tackling—29 missed tackles accounted for over the last two seasons.

Trice projects as a starting 3-4 outside linebacker. His ability to consistently pressure and hurry opposing quarterbacks is valuable. Trice has three-down skills and physical tools. I envision him being a consistent 7-9 sack defender in the NFL.
