Film Analysis:

Theo Johnson can align both in-line (Y) and flexed in space (F). Can operate as headliner, or second-fiddle in multi-TE (12 personnel) sets.

As a run blocker, Johnson showcases advanced technique to establish leverage and holster defenders. Uses athletic ability to shift laterally and shuffle feet to maintain contact with opponents. Experienced as the strong side tight end to clear out wide-nine rushers. Strong hands to latch and maneuver. Can, at times, lower and drive with his helmet to use as a leverage point in the run game—something to work on moving forward.

As a flex weapon, Johnson showcases an intriguing athletic profile with an awareness to find soft spots in zone. Quick off the line of scrimmage but has more of a build-up type of speed than immediate throttle. He has impressive top-end speed, however, to threaten the deeper third. Does well to sell routes and has experience operating a diversified route tree. Natural hands at a variety of depths and does a nice job snatching passes away from his frame. Good body control with athletes stuck in his hip pocket, as well. Comfortable releasing with a hand in the dirt or in a two-point stance upright. Featured touches on screens highlight Johnson’s ability after the catch and as a mismatch piece for a creative offensive coordinator. Should be an immediate red zone contributor due to his size over smaller safeties and speed to threaten less experienced linebackers in coverage.

Overall, Johnson is an immediate contributor to an offense as a flex weapon with a technically sound skill set to boost the ground game.

Prospect Projection: Day 2 — Adequate Starter
