Film Analysis:
Will Campbell is an offensive tackle prospect who has started since his true freshman year, garnering experience playing against some of the premier edge rushers in the SEC. Campbell has primarily aligned at LT for the Tigers and has been a reliable high-level starter for LSU. Campbell has a great combination of strength, power, and tenacity that makes him a physical force as both a run blocker and in pass protection.
As a run blocker, Campbell does a good job of showcasing first-step quickness/explosiveness. Combined with his frame, he generates good overall power to move defenders. Campbell has the strength to stalemate or move defenders off the line of scrimmage and displace them. On duo blocks/double-teams, Campbell has good timing and tempo and works to block second-level defenders effectively. Campbell also shows to be a good athlete and can successfully be a puller on power plays to be a lead blocker, locating defenders and making impactful blocks.
In pass pro, Campbell usually has a short, tempoed kick slide that he uses to stay in good position and tries to keep inside leverage with defenders. Campbell usually forces defenders into a situation of having to beat him with a power rush move or he can run them around the arc for an effective block. When defenders use a power rush move, Campbell’s great strength shows up in how he can shoot his hands, use his hand strength, and then use his lower-body strength to anchor against pass rushers. Campbell appears to be a naturally strong prospect who is strong throughout his frame/core. Dealing with power moves is an asset of his. Campbell has the lateral agility to react to defenders' counter moves and remain engaged while they redirect. Campbell appears to be most comfortable operating in condensed spaces where he can utilize his strength to win the rep.
Campbell has coachable improvements in both the run game and in pass pro. In the run game, Campbell's aggressive nature makes him eager to make contact with defenders, which results in him lunging at defenders at times and losing balance and body control. That can result in him being shed from blocks or missing the block. In pass pro, Campbell needs to improve his hand usage. Campbell has to work on the timing of his punches and not become so eager to make contact. He must work on becoming patient and not exposing his hands so defenders can’t win the rep by defeating his hands and making him off balance and not in a position to recover.
Overall, Campbell has the ideal profile of size, athleticism, and power wanted in a premier LT in the NFL. He just needs to clean up the coachable details of his game to reach his ceiling as a player.
