Film Analysis:

Oscar Delp is next in line to what is becoming a Georgia pipeline of talented tight ends heading to the NFL (Darnell Washington, Brock Bowers, etc.). Delp is splitting reps in the tight end rotation at Georgia, showcasing a glimpse of what appears to be a player with high-level athletic ability. He is an alignment-versatile player who can make plays from anywhere on the field. Delp fits the mold of the new era of NFL tight ends who are athletic flex options and high-volume pass-catchers. However, Delp also adds the element of being a willing in-line blocker.

The first identifiable asset Delp offers is his versatility by his alignment. On any given play, Delp can align anywhere from an outside receiver, to the slot, to the H-back position, to being an in-line tight end, creating mismatch issues and making it difficult for defenses to key in on him. From all of these alignments, Delp can effectively fill his role at a high level, whether that's running vertical routes in the slot or on the outside, or being the flat option on a QB bootleg where he can catch the ball and turn upfield. Delp’s athletic profile could be categorized as a smooth, fluid runner who has loose hips and the acceleration to push vertically up the field. Delp can also run in-breakers and can effectively break off routes and create a moment of separation to get the ball.

Once Delp catches the ball, his acceleration in the open field shows that he can quickly separate from linebackers and force defensive backs to have to catch up to him to tackle him. Delp understands the thought process of finishing plays and will work to run over a defender or hurdle them to pick up extra yardage. Overall, Delp profiles a versatile, athletic tight end who can be a heavily relied upon receiving option for an NFL team.

As a run blocker, Delp plays with a high motor and grit. On any given run play, Delp will extend himself and work to place an effective block. When aligned close to the line of scrimmage, Delp comes off of the ball with urgency, makes initial contact, and will work through the duration of the play to block his man and fill his role. Because of this effort/motor, Delp could be considered a well-rounded prospect—one who can serve as a pass-catching option but also willing to block on the line of scrimmage.

Delps needed improvement as a player revolves around becoming a more detailed route-runner. Delp is high-hipped and more of a strider, which occasionally takes away from his suddenness. That could affect his ability to separate at the top of the route from defensive backs. This is a detailed part of Delp's game that he can improve but nothing that should stop him from being productive.

Overall, Delp has all of the physical traits to develop into one of the better tight ends in the NFL if utilized the right way.
