Oscar Delp Scouting Report
Oscar Delp is an athletic, alignment-versatile TE prospect who has the physical traits to be utilized as an important piece of an NFL passing attack.
Draft Grade: Round 2 - Winning Starter
Strengths:
Route Running: Delp has shown the ability to run the entire route tree as a tight end. Delp is a fluid mover with fluid hips that allow him to get in and out of breaks that would traditionally be difficult for tight ends.
Alignment-Versatile: Delp's athletic ability allows him to align in different spots all over the field. Delp can play the X, Z, slot, or traditional in-line tight end position.
RAC: Delp has good acceleration in the open field, and when thrown the ball in stride, he has the speed to pick up extra yardage on the play.
Concerns:
Run Blocking: Delp has a long, lean frame that leans itself toward being more of a route-running tight end than a tight end that will thrive moving people off the ball in the run game. He gives good effort, but just needs to get stronger.
Contact Balance: Delp has excellent straight-line speed to separate, but he is often tripped up by the first defender's arm tackle, which prevents the play from being even bigger.
Oscar Delp Summary/Projection:
Oscar Delp is the next in line from what has become a tight end pipeline at Georgia, following in the footsteps of NFL talents like Darnell Washington and Brock Bowers. Delp is currently sharing reps in Georgia’s tight end rotation with another highly regarded prospect, Lawson Luckie, but has already showcased flashes of high-level athleticism and playmaking potential. He’s an alignment-versatile weapon who can contribute from multiple spots on the field. Delp fits the mold of the modern NFL tight end: an athletic flex option and high-volume pass-catcher, but with the added bonus of being a willing and effective in-line blocker.
The first standout trait in Delp’s game is his positional versatility. On any given play, he can line up as an outside receiver, in the slot, as an H-back, or in-line next to the tackle. That versatility creates mismatches and makes it difficult for defenses to key on him. No matter the alignment, Delp executes his assignments at a high level—whether it’s running vertical routes from the slot, working the seams, or acting as the flat option on a bootleg where he can catch the ball and turn upfield.
Athletically, Delp is a smooth and fluid runner with loose hips and enough acceleration to threaten vertically. He runs in-breaking routes well and can create just enough separation at the top of routes to make himself available to the quarterback. Once the ball is in his hands, Delp's run-after-catch ability stands out—he accelerates quickly in the open field and has the athleticism to separate from linebackers while forcing defensive backs to take sharp angles to bring him down. He plays with a physical mindset as a ball-carrier and is willing to lower his shoulder or hurdle defenders to finish runs and pick up extra yardage.
Overall, Delp projects as a reliable, versatile receiving option who can be heavily involved in an NFL passing game.
As a run blocker, Delp brings effort and toughness. He plays with a high motor and a willingness to engage defenders, especially when lined up in-line. He comes off the ball with urgency, makes sound initial contact, and stays engaged through the whistle. While not a dominant blocker at this stage, his effort level and technique give him a strong foundation. This balance between receiving ability and blocking effort makes Delp a well-rounded prospect.
The main area for improvement in Delp’s game lies in his route-running detail. He’s a high-hipped, long-striding athlete, which at times reduces his short-area quickness and limits his suddenness at the top of routes—particularly against quicker defensive backs. This can affect his separation in tighter coverage situations. However, this is a technical area of his game that can improve with NFL coaching and doesn’t limit his long-term potential.
Overall, Delp has all the physical tools and foundational traits to develop into one of the better tight ends in the NFL—if utilized correctly. His combination of athleticism, versatility, and effort on both sides of the ball gives him a high ceiling and a clear pathway to becoming a featured weapon in a modern NFL offense.
