The Green Bay Packers aim to reignite their NFC North dominance this season. With Jordan Love showing promise as yet another Green Bay franchise quarterback, all eyes will be on the offensive line to open up the run game and protect Love.
Brian Gutenkunst and the Green Bay scouting department have consistently found valuable linemen through the draft. Every starting offensive lineman has been selected by Gutenkunst and the Packers since his debut draft in 2018. This group is filled, top to bottom, with competitors who can perform at the next level.
The starting five is versatile and effective. Apart from a lone question mark in first-round rookie Jordan Morgan, this group, albeit young, could potentially finish as one of the best in the league.
Led by up-and-coming tackles Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom, both drafted on day three of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Packers secured two of the most crucial positions in football. Walker ended the 2023 season as one of the most promising tackles in the league. Tom, who I had a first-round evaluation on before he was drafted, is one of the most technically skilled young players in the league.
Alongside them is a duo of outstanding interior linemen. Headlining this group is two-time Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins, who has been a versatile and reliable presence on the Packers' front five. Holding down the center position, as he has done for the past two seasons, is Josh Myers. Myers has started all 17 games in the past two seasons, and his availability and consistency keep this group moving through the ups and downs of the season.
One of the more long-term yet equally exciting aspects of this offensive line is the abundance of young talent acquired through the draft. Morgan will attract the most attention this season, especially after many expected him to be selected on day two. However, this organization has gained the respect of any doubters and it's evident that the Packers see something special in Morgan. Joining Morgan in this rookie class are Georgia State tackle Travis Glover, Duke guard Jacob Monk, and UDFA Donovan Jennings. All of these players have a good chance of making the active roster.
Glover is a raw talent, but from my observations of him on film and at the Senior Bowl, I'm convinced that Glover possesses the skills and talent to have a successful career as a professional. As for Monk, he was part of a strong Duke offensive line and should be a strong contender for a backup guard spot after being selected in the fifth round. Similarly to Glover, Jennings is one of those players with all the necessary tools to succeed in the NFL. Time will tell what his future with the Packers holds.
Regarding the rest of this group, former top-100 selections Sean Ryhan and Andre Dillard are looking to carve out a role on this roster to keep their careers afloat. Tackles Kadeem Telfort and Caleb Jones will compete for a roster spot as well. Both are intriguing players still striving to find their footing in the league.
This Packers offensive line has been carefully chosen through thorough scouting and intelligent decision-making on draft night. Filled with talent from top to bottom, this group will be the key factor in determining how far the 2024-25 Packers can advance.
