Film Analysis:

Devin Moore’s collegiate campaign has been marred by injuries. He could not finish his freshman season after undergoing shoulder surgery, and his sophomore season saw numerous injuries pop up and cause him to miss games. But he’s one of Florida’s best defensive players on the field. He played in a three-man rotation across from Jason Marshall Jr. with Ja’Keem Jackson and Jalen Kimber. Playing time wasn’t a given for Moore, and he hasn’t been able to put up the production numbers to this point that he’d like, but the talent is evident.

Moore is a smooth mover for a corner listed above 6-foot-2 and weighing nearly 200 pounds. His frame is ideal for NFL defenses; adding length to that list, Moore checks all the boxes for a starting cornerback. He does a great job of playing with his hips under him, allowing him to flip and run or decelerate at a moment's notice. He can square up and backpedal in man coverage and drop into zones quickly with an efficient backpedal.

He’s comfortable in either man or zone and identifies route combinations underneath quickly. Moore mixes up his hand usage with a little press, jam, soft press with hand fighting through the stem, and faking the hand usage. He has the vertical speed to carry most receivers deep and to stay on top in zone. When receivers get behind him, Moore quickly flips his hips and uses his recovery athleticism to make up ground. He has excellent eyes and is quick to trigger downhill when he sees screens or plays behind the line of scrimmage. He’s a physical presence at the catch point when tested; he had three passes defensed in his limited action as a sophomore.

With all the raw talent, Moore just needs reps. It’s been challenging to stay on the field with the injury issues, but there’s no question he belongs. Moore can be bullied at the top of routes or when receivers are blocking. His play strength needs to improve, along with block shedding, to be more impactful against the run. When in off-coverage, there are lapses in his footwork, whether due to concentration or speed, and he gets caught with flat feet, which leads to quick separation for the receiver. Moore was credited with two defensive pass-interference penalties, one against Florida State and the other against Arkansas, and both came when he was forced to sprint back to a deep ball.

Overall, Moore is a highly talented and intelligent cornerback with all the tools to be successful at Florida and the next level. He needs more playing time and to stay healthy for an entire season to showcase his talent.
