The spotlight surrounding the Colorado Buffaloes has increased as the weeks have churned along. A burning radiance that has shined brightest on the Buffaloes’ biggest stars, a standout at wideout not named Travis Hunter has drawn his own glimmer of light the last few weeks: LaJohntay Wester

A former standout during his four seasons at Florida Atlantic, Wester’s move to the Big 12 has seen his skill set evolve and his NFL draft stock rise. While Wester doesn’t ‘wow’ with his mass or contested catch ability, his creativity, explosiveness, and versatility have showcased one of the country’s most underrated playmakers. Combining that with his ability on special teams, Wester has become a name to get familiar with if your team needs an offensive chess piece with multi-phase potential.

As his high level of play continues and his name continues to arise in conversations with scouts, here are a few teams that could call Wester’s name when we get to April.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys need more talent in a lot of places. While it’s going to take time, and the right process of building to work back to what they initially thought was their Super Bowl window, adding a player like Wester would complement the likes of CeeDee Lamb on the outside.

While Wester’s skill set is similar to that of Kavontae Turpin, Wester’s projection heightens as a pure pass-catcher with the nuance and route-running to create separation on the perimeter. Speed and playmaking are never a bad thing to add to an offense desperate for more juice, and Wester’s electric skill set would fly around the fast track in Arlington.

Arizona Cardinals

Arizona has their big-bodied weapons in place. Marvin Harrison Jr. looks like a future All-Pro, and Michael Wilson has done a nice job in his first few seasons as a day-two pick. However, adding Wester, a skill set on the opposite end of the spectrum in consideration to the aforementioned larger-bodied wideouts, would further expand Arizona’s playbook.

There are pieces in place for Arizona to evolve into one of the league’s top offenses for years to come, and Wester’s explosiveness would allow the Cardinals to be a true three-level attack through the air.

Miami Dolphins

When you think of speed, you think of Miami. Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert, Jaylen Wright, all those guys can absolutely fly. Fittingly, Wester can also pick ‘em and put ‘em down with the fastest ballplayers in the upcoming class.

However, he’s much more than just linear acceleration, as his stop-start ability, controlled tempo, and understanding of how to attack pursuit angles allow Wester to create chunk plays with consistency. If head coach Mike McDaniel eyes another playmaker to add to his arsenal, Wester is about as perfect a scheme fit as you could idealize.
