Film Analysis:

Ty Robinson leaves Nebraska and enters the 2025 NFL Draft holding the record for most games played in Nebraska history. A consistent contributor along the defensive front for six years, Robinson brings extensive playing experience, which is evident in his instincts and production across multiple alignments along the defensive line. Robinson enters the draft following his most productive season, recording 37 tackles and seven sacks. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, Robinson possesses a rare combination of size, athleticism, and strength, making him an impactful player in both the run and pass game.

As a run defender, Robinson has the versatility to align anywhere from a 0-technique to a true edge defender. He excels in the run game when attacking upfield to create penetration and disrupt plays in the backfield. When positioned on the interior, his quick first step often overwhelms offensive linemen, who struggle with the foot quickness required to seal gaps and prevent penetration. Once in the backfield, Robinson demonstrates good range and the ability to plant and redirect toward the ball-carrier.

When tasked with gap control, Robinson is an aggressive collision player, engaging offensive linemen at the snap and seeking to lock out blockers. His high motor is evident, as he consistently chases ball-carriers downfield, sometimes more than 10 yards, to make a tackle. Robinson's exceptional length provides a wide tackle radius, allowing him to condense open run lanes effectively. Overall, as a run defender, Robinson thrives when shooting gaps and slanting upfield, leveraging his size, athleticism, and functional strength to make impactful plays.

Robinson also delivers high-level reps as a pass rusher. His quick initial step at the snap often puts him in a favorable position to continue upfield or execute a counter move. When aligned on the interior, he effectively penetrates gaps and disrupts the pocket. Robinson displays a solid repertoire of hand counters, using them with speed and precision. His reactionary athleticism enables him to start upfield and redirect as needed.

As a pass rusher, Robinson is relentless, maintaining pursuit of the quarterback until the play ends. His length becomes a significant asset, collapsing the pocket and forcing hurried decisions, even when he doesn’t record a sack. His disruptive presence is consistently felt by opposing quarterbacks.

Despite his strengths, Robinson has areas for development. One key aspect is maintaining a lower pad level. At 6-foot-6, this can be challenging, and when he plays too high, offensive linemen gain leverage, making it harder for him to shed blocks effectively.

Another area of growth is refining his pass-rush plan. While his athleticism allows him to work upfield effectively, Robinson would benefit from developing a more calculated approach, incorporating specific hand techniques and a broader array of pass-rush moves. With continued refinement, he has the potential to become a dominant force as a pass rusher.

Robinson possesses many of the physical tools NFL defenses covet in a defensive lineman. With a few fine-tuned adjustments—improving his pad level and developing a more detailed pass-rush strategy—Robinson has the potential to be a well-rounded and highly impactful contributor at the next level, excelling against both the run and the pass.
