Film Analysis:

A transfer to Marshall after one season at Virginia, Mike Green enters the process with three contributing seasons of college football under his belt, amassing 102 pressures and 24 sacks. He is a primary standup edge rusher who lines up outside the shoulder of the tackle. He is one of the 2025 NFL Draft’s small-school headliners.

As a pass rusher, Green is electric. He fires off the snap, can win to either shoulder, and has an element of power to his game that is nice to see as a primary speed rusher. While many young pass-rushers look to win solely as an athlete around the hoop, Green has shown the ability to convert speed-to-power and vary his looks on passing downs. His explosiveness and bend will force tackles on their heels quickly, but his ability to get stronger as the years go on will go a long way toward Green evolving into a true three-down contributor.

Green is very nuanced around the line of scrimmage. He understands angles and offensive concepts and can create havoc in ways beyond a one-on-one rep. Does an excellent job of keeping his eyes up and toward the backfield at the top of his rush as things break down. Can wiggle and work his way around the chaos of the pocket after initially being stymied to wrangle down opposing QBs. Go-to move is an outside spin where Green does an excellent job of pushing to the inside shoulder of the tackle only to flash his hands and rip outside and around the arc (Ohio State). It happens quickly and tackles with even average footwork can be left yards behind. Can bend and relocate on a dime at full speed. Also has a stop-start hesitation move (Old Dominion) that can stop the feet of tackles initially, only for Green to accelerate past his opponents.

Green approaches each rep with a heavy amount of tenacity, but larger and more athletic tackles could have their way with him if he isn’t able to win initially. Green isn’t small, but his mass against 310-plus pound NFL linemen who can counter speed will force him to alter his approach quickly. From an alignment perspective, Green primarily aligns in a two-point stance at 5-tech but has experience with his hand in the dirt.

Against the run, Green is a tough block for fringe area players due to his quickness and agility. He also has excellent hands to rip and swipe after initially engaging. However, should tackles or guards square him up, they can holster and keep Green away from the play. Does well to disengage from tight ends and is a constant pursuit defender. Can shoot gaps and force plays the opposite way as well. Good patience when left unblocked as the end man on zone reads, and is a player that has the acceleration to chase down QBs and RBs to the outside if awarded the chance. Does have room to get stronger despite his constantly hot motor and desire for knocking opposing linemen on their backs.

Overall, Green is a highly productive and intriguing prospect who currently projects as an immediate contributor to an NFL defense. His ability as a pass rusher paints an initial picture of his potential for production, but his athletic profile inside a creative defensive structure will allow Green to make an impact in a variety of ways.
