Kansas offensive tackle Logan Brown was a steady performer at this year’s Senior Bowl. An athletic mover, Brown displays real functional movement skills on tape. He’s violent in the run game, creating lanes for his ball carriers to exploit.
Brown recently spoke exclusively with The Draft Network. Brown discussed his experience in Mobile, what he proved to general managers and scouts, overcoming Type 1 Diabetes to continue pursuing his dream of playing professional football, and more.
JM: You recently participated in this year's Senior Bowl. What was that experience like?
Logan Brown: It was a great experience. It’s always fun to go compete with some of the best prospects in the nation. It was a terrific opportunity to head to Mobile and get some more exposure.
I felt like I got better every single day. That’s all you can ask for. I got to make new friends and associates. I met so many great people. It was a cool experience overall.
JM: What do you think you proved to general managers and scouts in attendance?
Logan Brown: I proved I can be a swing offensive lineman who plays both tackle and guard at the next level. I only played right tackle at Kansas during my senior season, so I wanted to show that I could be versatile. I think I answered scouts’ questions about playing both positions.
I went to Mobile and did both on the left and right side of the offensive line.
JM: You have the versatility teams are looking for. It sounds like showcasing that tackle-guard flexibility was a focal point for you.
Logan Brown: I absolutely proved that I could play all four tackle and guard positions. I played a lot of tackle at the Senior Bowl, but I know there are some teams that see me as a tackle/guard. They think I can play that swing position. It was important to show that in Mobile, especially that I could pass-set on both sides of the ball.
JM: You cleared a hurdle. You met with all 32 teams in Mobile. That's standard practice. Which of those meetings do you best remember now? Which teams were particularly engaging with you?
Logan Brown: Some of my more memorable meetings were with the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks. The Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers were great meetings as well. Those four were the most memorable.
JM: One of the most inspiring aspects of your pre-draft journey is that you're a Type 1 Diabetic. Talk to me about overcoming those challenges. You're accomplishing is incredible.
Logan Brown: Nothing against the staff at Wisconsin, but I felt that early in my career, I don’t think I had the proper resources available to me to excel at the Power Five [at the time] level.
Everything changed for me at Kansas from a health perspective. All of the issues that I had before just went away. I had access to the proper nutrition and diet. I had people around me who I felt like I needed. I didn’t know that until I got to Kansas.
JM: That makes a huge difference. Is Logan Brown a phone-booth blocker, or athletic in space? How would you describe your traits and identity as an offensive lineman?
Logan Brown: I’d say I’m more of an athlete in space, by offensive lineman standards (laughs). Those cornerbacks are quick out there. At Kansas, we often utilized me as a pulling tackle on offense. I feel like I’ve always had the ability to bend and to recover from different positions.
That’s due to my ability to bend, and just my overall athleticism. I’d say my identity is that of a more athletic offensive lineman.
JM: Building on that, what was your favorite play to run in the playbook and why? Something you get excited about in the huddle?
Logan Brown: Any time we faced a three-down defensive front, I loved running power. Power and counter. Those were my favorite plays. It’s funny, I was more of a phone-booth blocker in that aspect (laughs). We ran a lot of power and counter at Wisconsin, so it was very familiar to me when I got to Kansas.
That was a focal point in our playbook. I was comfortable with it. I loved it.
JM: What did you love about those plays?
Logan Brown: I love teeing off on a 3-tech or a 2i before climbing up to the linebacker (laughs). It was a great opportunity to display my physicality. Yeah, you can be physical on every play, but power or counter are specifically designed for me to go out there and be physical.
JM: We love that. We've appreciated your time today. This has been outstanding. In closing, what kinda guy is Logan Brown going to be at the next level?
Logan Brown: They’re getting a guy who’s going to show up every day ready to work. I believe consistency is key at all levels, especially in the NFL. I’m going to have a consistent attitude in the facility. Football is about to be my job. That’s my daily mindset.
