The Miami Dolphins were embarrassed in Week 1, losing 33-8 to the Indianapolis Colts. The Dolphins appear to be an organization at the end of their competitive window. If the results continue trending in a disappointing direction, GM Chris Grier could be a trade deadline seller while turning attention to the 2026 NFL Draft.
Veteran wide receiver Tyreek Hill is their most tradeable asset. The 31-year-old speedy playmaker still looked athletic and productive on tape. The Dolphins' flailing offense is simply struggling to get him the football in space.
Hill is signed through 2026, but with no guaranteed money heading into the next campaign. That makes his contract a team-friendly one worth absorbing for an interested party. The Dolphins would create a significant amount of financial flexibility by trading him, and they'd also receive much-needed draft capital to kickstart the inevitable rebuild.
We've identified three teams that should consider trading for Hill.
Kansas City Chiefs
A return to Hill's old stomping grounds feels most likely if he's traded. The Kansas City Chiefs are already dealing with serious issues at wide receiver. Rashee Rice is serving a six-game suspension, and Xavier Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder injury in Week 1 after an awkward run-in with Travis Kelce.
Hollywood Brown saw a sizable 16 targets in the opening game defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. You know you're desperate when. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton were the other receivers who played the majority of available snaps versus the Chargers. The Chiefs have a serious lack of talent at the position right now. The chemistry between Patrick Mahomes and Hill would allow the legendary duo to hit the ground running again.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers were among the most aggressive teams in the league this offseason. They signed Aaron Rodgers to play quarterback, giving this version of the team a one-year window to compete. That's precisely why GM Omar Khan was willing to acquire talents like DK Metcalf, Jonnu Smith, and Jalen Ramsey via trade. They've even signed veterans like Darius Slay and Jabrill Peppers following their release. The Steelers are all-in on winning in 2025.
Rodgers threw four touchdowns, and the Steelers scored an explosive 34 points in a Week 1 victory. Calvin Austin III was the only other wide receiver who caught a pass besides Metcalf. Depth is still a major question at wide receiver. Adding Hill to Rodgers' pass-catching corps could position the Steelers to seriously contend in the AFC.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots scored 13 points in Week 1. Drake Maye was 30-of-46 with 287 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The initial output isn't going to help Mike Vrabel beat the allegations that indicate his defense-first approach makes him ill-equipped to field a successful passing attack.
Kayshon Boutte had a breakout performance with 103 receiving yards, but Stefon Diggs looked like an aging vet still recovering from a serious knee injury. Though the Patriots are technically still in the early stages of their rebuild, they spent money this offseason like they're trying to accelerate the process. Trading for Hill would aid Maye's development by giving him another weapon that could make explosive plays.
